Strawberry Quilt Along

Hello friends! Happy summer and welcome to the Strawberry Gathering quilt along! We are going to make this sweet strawberry quilt together, well virtually together via Instagram mostly. If you are new to quilting or doing a quilt along, no worries I am going to explain it here so we all know what to expect and look forward to.

WHAT IS A QUILT ALONG?

That's a good question! Unless you have been quilting for a while you may not know what a quilt along is.

A quilt along is a group of quilters making the same quilt at the same time either virtually or in person.

Usually it is a sewing event where a host (that's me) provides direction, community and fun prizes to keep us motivated so we all end up with a strawberry quilt!

WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THIS QUILT ALONG?

This quilt along will be 7 weeks long, starting Friday, July 2nd and finishing on August, Friday the 13th.

  • Each week I will create a blog post with details on that weeks task, tips and tricks and motivation to keep us all going.

  • Each week there will be part of the pattern and quilt making process we will focus on. Then each person will post a picture of their progress for that week using the hashtag #strawberryqal on Instagram so we can see each others choices.

  • Posting weekly using the hashtag will get your name in the bucket for weekly prizes like; handprinted strawberry quilt labels, small strawberry themed projects, and of course FABRIC!

  • There will be a weekly email sent out to folks too, so be sure to subscribe here by filling out the subscribe form at the bottom of the page.

  • If you haven't gotten the Strawberry Gathering pattern it can be purchased here https://www.offbeatquilts.com/product-page/strawberry-gathering-quilt-pattern

  • Then start picking out your fabrics! The Portland Quilt Supply has offered 10% off your fabric order using the code: STRAWBERRYLOVE if you want to order new fabric instead of working from your stash. https://www.pdxquilts.com/

To sign up for the quilt along, subscribe here, then post this picture on your Instagram to introduce yourself to the group of makers gathering to make this quilt virtually and to get your name in the bucket for that weeks prize! Be sure to tag me @mama_makes_time in your intro post so I don't miss getting your name on the list for that weeks prizes!

Quilt along plan by the numbers

  1. Week one, Friday July 2nd post on Instagram, intro post with the hashtag #strawberyqal. Get your pattern ready, either downloaded in your favorite spot or printed and ready to go. Review the pattern by reading through it first and start thinking about what variation you want to make and fabrics you want to use.

  2. Week two, Friday July 9th, fabric pull and prep. Post on Instagram your fabric selection so we can all drool over your fabric choices with the hashtag #strawberryqal and tell us about your choices with this sweet strawberry quilt!

  3. Week three, lets' get cutting! Friday July 16th. Get your templates out and cut out the amount you need for your selected size. Post on Instagram your cut pile or in progress pic with #strawberryqal so we can cheer each other on!

  4. Week four, Friday, July 23rd, let's make some baskets baby! I find the secondary block, the basket block an easy one to sew and a good place to start for this one. Post a picture of your progress on Instagram using the #strawberryqal so we can cheer each other on and gets your name in the drawing for that weeks prize!

  5. Week five, Friday, July 30th, let's make some strawberry tops! I like to make all the strawberry tops at one time, that way I get in a rhythm and they come out uniformly. There will be a detailed blog post on this part so check back here if looking for tips and tricks. Post a picture of your progress on Instagram using the #strawberryqal so we can cheer each other on and gets your name in the drawing for that weeks prize!

  6. Week six, Friday, August 6th, let's sew some curves baby! Let's sew curves together and complete the strawberry block this week by bringing it together with those strawberry tops we made last week! There will be a detailed blog post on this part so check back here if looking for tips and tricks. Post a picture of your progress on Instagram using the #strawberryqal so we can cheer each other on and gets your name in the drawing for that weeks prize!

  7. Week seven, Friday, August 13th, put it all together. Sew the blocks together to make a finished quilt top and I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Post a picture of your progress on Instagram using the #strawberryqal so we can celebrate each other's success and gets your name in the drawing for that weeks prize!

And that's it! Let's do this TOGETHER!!!
